Working With A Fence Contractor To Put A New Fence Around Your Property

When you need a fence around your yard or property, determining what style will do the job and finding a fence company to install it are important. There are many fence styles to choose from, and using a professional installer to put in the fence ensures the best installation.

Property Survey

When considering a fence for your property, it is sometimes good to have a fence company assess the lot to determine if the fence style you would like will work on the terrain you have in your yard. The fence company can install your fence to fit the contours of the land, but sometimes rocks or boulders, large trees, and other natural objects in the yard can make the installation more challenging.

The property assessment will help the contractor determine what they need to do to make the fence work around the property and help determine the location of gates in the fence for people to go through or, if necessary, to get a car or truck through. The contractor will typically walk the area with you and discuss any concerns or ask questions to help determine where the fence should be positioned, how much of the yard should be enclosed, and the best way to install the fence to ensure it lasts for many years.

Fence Installation

When the day comes to install your new fence, the fence company will arrive with a crew, the materials for the fence, and the tools for the job. The installation starts with setting the position of all the fence posts along the fence perimeter, and for a large fence, the contractor may use a power auger to drill the holes and get the posts set.

Concrete is batch mixed and poured into the holes around each fence post and allowed to cure. In many cases, the fence posts get installed the first day, and then the crew will come back the next day to put the rest of the fence panels in place. Doing the fence posts and waiting a day for the concrete to cure is the best way to ensure nothing moves as the fence sections are hung on the posts, so the fence remains square and solid.

Often the fence sections are preassembled so the fence company can put them in place very quickly. The panels are typically prepainted and easily installed on the fence posts around the yard.

If you need gates in the fence, the installer will put those in once the panels are complete. All the hardware necessary for locking the gate will also be put in place, and the gates adjusted to ensure they open and close smoothly. Installing a fence this way ensures it is done correctly and will take far less time than if you install it yourself. The fence company will also typically warranty its work when the fence is completed.
